Restore Balance & Improve Your Immune System

“Exercise improves your overall fitness, which can help boost your immune system — the body’s defense against infections.”

Focus on what you can control

This is a crazy time in history. There are so many unknowns that can throw off the precious balance that we work so hard to maintain in our lives.  We don’t know when things will go back to normal and that’s one variable we can’t control. However, there are a few things we can do to create a new normal.

Here are 5 tips to not only boost your immune system, but these can also help your restore balance to your daily life.

Exercise

If you’re a member of Golden Ape, then you were seamlessly transitioned to our remote online coaching program about 3 weeks ago. Our coaches are working hard to make sure you receive fun, customized workouts every day.  Workouts that not only bring you closer to your goal, but also boosts your immune system. Exercise improves your overall fitness, which can help boost your immune system — the body’s defense against infections. Exercise causes change in antibodies and white blood cells. White blood cells are the body’s immune system cells that fight disease.

Exercise also releases feel-good chemicals in the brain called endorphins that make you feel more relaxed and improve your mood. Its a win-win!

8+ Hour of Sleep

Your body heals and regenerates while you’re sleeping which makes getting adequate sleep essential for a healthy immune system. When you are sleep deprived your immune system is less able to defend your body against harmful invaders and makes you at higher risk to get sick.

If needed, set yourself an alarm to let you know what time you need to go to bed in order to get 8+ hours of sleep.

Eat More Fruits & Veggies

We have all heard of the ‘Corona 15’ akin to the ‘Freshman 15’. Hopefully you haven’t fallen victim to this. It seems that stress and boredom eating has been an issue that many of us are struggling with right now.

So how do we stay on track and maintain balance in our nutrition while also improving our immune system? The answer is fruits and vegetables.

The immune system relies on a steady supply of nutrients to do its job. For a starter dose of immune-boosting vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, fill half of your plate at every meal with vegetables and fruits. Not only does this give you a healthy dose of immune boosting vitamins and antioxidants, but it fills you up leaving you less susceptible to mindless noshing.

Stay Hydrated

Proper hydration is a key component in supporting our body’s immune system.

Staying hydrated helps your body naturally eliminate toxins and other bacteria that may cause illness. Drinking enough water also aids in digestion and prevents possible pathogens like a virus or bacteria from getting into the eyes, nose and mouth.

Be Positive

A positive attitude doesn’t just boost your mood. Optimism also strengthens your immune system.

There is no doubt that what happens in the brain influences what happens in the body. Actively nurturing positive emotions can boost the immune system and counter depression.

Studies have also shown a link between having a positive attitude and health benefits like better weight control, less heart disease and lower blood pressure.

These tips may seem obvious but they can be easily overlooked or pushed to the side when our schedules get off. Take the steps today to actively create balance in your daily life and improve your immune system.
